Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir holds discussions with Turkish President Erdoğan
Ankara: General Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), the Chief of Army Staff, is currently on an official visit to the Republic of Türkiye. This visit is a significant part of the ongoing high-level reciprocal visits between the two friendly nations, aimed at bolstering their deep-rooted diplomatic and military relations.
During his visit, COAS held meetings with various Turkish officials, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Foreign and Defense Ministers, the Commander of the Turkish General Staff, and the Commanders of the Turkish Land and Air forces.
Throughout these meetings, COAS stressed the importance of strengthening defense collaboration and training cooperation between the two countries. He commended the Turkish Military for its efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the region and lauded the operational readiness of the Turkish Armed Forces. Turkish leaders also expressed their gratitude for the assistance provided by Pakistan Army Engineers during the unfortunate earthquake that struck Türkiye in February of this year.
As a mark of respect, COAS visited the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Ankara, where he paid his respects to the revered leader and laid a floral wreath in his honor.
Additionally, during his visit to the Turkish Land Forces Headquarters, COAS received a warm welcome and a Guard of Honour. He was also honored with the Legion of Merit by the Minister of Defense and the Commander of the Turkish Land Forces. This recognition was awarded in acknowledgment of his outstanding contributions to promoting defense relations between the two nations. During the ceremony, COAS emphasized, “Pakistan and Türkiye share a robust brotherly bond that has consistently withstood the test of time. The Pakistan Army is always ready to provide full support to the Turkish Land Forces across multiple domains. Pakistan has consistently stood by its Turkish brothers during times of adversity and moments of triumph, and we will continue to strengthen the fraternal ties between our two nations.”
